It's common to have a visual map of a space. But what about a sonic map? At SoundSpace, we will sometimes make a sonic map of a film. This shows us relationships between different "sonic zones" of the film, wether that's a geographical zone, a narrative zone, or a psychological zone. This technique was, in part, inspired by the work done at SoundSurvey.org. They produced an interactive sonic map of London. The land is broken into dozens of small zones, each with 1 or two sound recordings done that typify what it usually sounds like there.
Go ahead and play with it; it's really fun!
